Meet Fairview Elementary's Music Faculty
Mr. Cody Talarico
Mr. Cody Talarico joined the Fairview Elementary faculty beginning in the fall of 2010. He has been a music teacher with the Bellevue Public Schools since 1999. He believes that every child is musical. He really likes to make music class an active music-making environment where students sing, play instruments, move, enjoy stories, create their own music, read musical notation, and more! In the fall, Cody organizes and conducts an after-school Chime Choir for the students Fairview Elementary. In the spring, Cody leads Fairview Voices, an after-school Swing Choir for the upper elementary.
Cody earned a Bachelor of Music Degree in K-12 Vocal and Instrumental Music Education from Hastings College in Hastings, Nebraska, and a Masters of Music Degree from the University of Nebraska Omaha. He has also earned a Nebraska Administrative Endorsement in Curriculum Supervision. Cody has been trained in Orff Schulwerk, an approach to music teacher and learning that developed by the German composer, Carl Orff. He has completed four levels of the Orff Schulwerk teacher training at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, and has studied Dlacroze Eurhythmics at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota. Cody has been invited to be a guest presenter at the University of Nebraska-Omaha Introduction to Orff Schulwerk course, Great Plains Orff Chapter’s Sharing Session, and Nebraska Music Educators Association Conference/Clinic. Cody has also served as the conductor of the Ragazzi Children’s and Ragazzi Youth Choirs, part of the Nebraska Children’s Chorus.
In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Cody serves as Director of Music for Luther Memorial Lutheran Church in Omaha, Nebraska. There he directs the music ministry, plays organ and piano for worship services, conducts the handbell chime choirs, and accompanies the choir. Cody has also taught undergraduate classes in music education at the University of Nebraska Omaha.
Cody has been named a “Friend of the Arts” by the Omaha Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota and a "Champion for Children" by the Bellevue Public Schools.
